Welcome to London to Cornwall Removals Services

London to Cornwall Removals

London to Cornwall removals are one of the longest road moves on the UK mainland, and Pro Mover Team plans every one in person. Our senior surveyor visits your London property, measures the volume, and walks the access at both ends before any quote is issued. That practice is one of the reasons clients rate us Excellent on Google. Once the survey is signed off, the route on the A30 and A303 corridor, the crew, the vehicle and the agreed arrival slot in Cornwall are booked together. The result is a move where collection day, the road leg and the unload in Rock, Padstow, Falmouth, St Ives or Newquay are written into a single fixed plan.

Overview of the Move

Cornwall sits at the far south-west of the English mainland, between roughly 270 and 320 road miles from central London depending on the destination. East Cornwall (Saltash, Bodmin, Looe) is typically a four to five hour drive in normal traffic. West Cornwall (Truro, Falmouth, St Ives, Newquay, Penzance) routinely runs to five and a half or six hours, and longer when school holidays, bank holidays or summer weekends bring tourist traffic onto the A30. The drive time is one of the first variables we lock down at survey stage, because it sets the loading time in London, the overnight stop if one is needed, and the arrival window in Cornwall.

Two main routes carry household goods from London into Cornwall. The standard run is the M3 to A303 to A30, which drops onto the Cornish trunk road at Honiton and runs through Exeter, Bodmin and Truro on the way west. The alternative is the M4 to M5 to A30, used in poor weather, when the A303 is congested, or when Stonehenge-stretch traffic is forecast. Both routes converge on the A30 once you cross into Devon, and the A30 itself becomes the spine of the south-west run from there to whichever Cornish destination is on the plan.

Cornwall is not one access pattern, it is several. Rock and Padstow sit either side of the Camel Estuary, with narrow approach roads, tight village streets, and limited turning circles for full-size removals lorries. Falmouth has a working harbour town centre with parking restrictions and steep streets. St Ives has formal vehicle restrictions in the town centre (set out in Cornwall Council highways guidance), with a road network that does not take an articulated lorry. Newquay handles full-size vehicles in most areas but has tight residential streets in the older parts of town. Bodmin and Truro are easier and often work as shuttle drop points when the final destination needs a smaller vehicle. Our planning team works the access map back from the destination address, not forward from London.

Seasonal traffic is the third constraint. From late May to early September, and across school-holiday weeks, the A30 west of Exeter sees high tourist volume that adds hours to the run. We plan around it where we can, with earlier collection in London, mid-week loading, and overnight pauses at a holding depot, and we factor it into the booked time so the date you receive at survey stage is the date the crew arrives.

Scope of Service

A booking with Pro Mover Team includes a senior pre-move survey at the London property, a written volume assessment, and a fixed plan covering collection, route, overnight pause where required, shuttle planning where required, and the agreed slot itself. We supply all packing materials at long-haul specification, which means stronger cartons, stretch film, export blankets, and protective covers for upholstered items and mattresses. Specialist crating is available for paintings, mirrors, marble tops, antiques and any item where standard wrapping is not enough, and we handle the dismantle and reassemble of beds, wardrobes, dining tables and similar furniture at both ends. The crew that loads in London is, where the schedule allows, the same crew that unloads in Cornwall, which means accountability sits with one team from start to finish. We plan the route, the rest stops and the overnight pause where the run is long enough to need one, and we handle the parking arrangements at both ends, including suspension permits in London and any access agreements with private estates, harbour boards or village parking schemes in Cornwall. Where the destination cannot take a full removals lorry, a shuttle vehicle is built into the same booking, with the holding point usually at Bodmin, Truro or another sensibly located rendezvous on the route. Insurance is arranged for the value declared in the survey, with cover that runs from collection in London through to final placement at the Cornwall address. Where you need temporary storage in London before the move or in Cornwall on arrival, that is built into the same booking rather than handled as a separate job. Unpacking, debris removal and a follow-up walk-through are included as standard on full-service moves, and the office team you speak to during the planning stage is the same office team you can reach on the day of the move.

Access and Logistics Planning

Access is the part of a Cornwall move that catches inexperienced removals firms out, and it is the part we plan hardest. At the London end, parking is the first variable. Many of the postcodes we work in (SW18, SW11, SW6, SE11 and SW2) sit under controlled parking zones where suspension permits need to be applied for in advance. Our coordinator handles those applications so the lorry has a confirmed bay on the day. Carry distance from the door to the vehicle, the presence and size of a lift, the width of staircases and the angle of the turn at any landing all feed into how the load is sequenced and how many crew members are assigned.

Property access at the Cornwall end is the second variable, and Cornwall in particular needs a property-by-property plan rather than a single template. Rock and Padstow have narrow approach lanes, tight village streets, and seasonal pedestrian traffic in summer that makes a full-size lorry impractical close to the harbour. We typically run the main vehicle to a holding point on a wider road and shuttle the load in using a smaller vehicle. Cornwall Council highways guidance sets out the formal vehicle restriction in St Ives town centre, so a shuttle from the edge of town is standard for most St Ives destinations. Falmouth has steep streets and harbour-side restrictions of its own. Newquay handles full-size vehicles on the main routes but the older residential streets need the same shuttle approach. Across rural Cornwall, narrow country lanes, blind bends, single-track sections with passing places, and limited turning at the property itself all sit on the access plan. Long carry distances from the nearest practical lorry stop to the front door are budgeted into the crew size and the timing rather than treated as a surprise on the day.

Seasonal traffic is the third variable. Tourist traffic on the A30 west of Exeter starts in May, peaks across July and August, and stays high through to early September. School-holiday weeks add the same effect on a smaller scale through the rest of the year. We plan around it by booking the road leg for earlier in the day, by avoiding peak Saturdays where the destination flexibility allows, and by writing the agreed slot with enough margin that a slow afternoon on the A30 does not push the unload into the evening.

Protection Standards

A move that includes a long road haul into rural and coastal Cornwall is rated as long-haul, and the protection specification is set accordingly. Every item of furniture is wrapped in export blankets, the heavyweight quilted covers we use on long-distance and storage jobs, and finished with stretch film to hold the wrap in place during loading, the road leg and the unload. Upholstered items get an additional cover over the blanket. Mattresses go into purpose-made covers rather than loose plastic. Glass tabletops, mirrors and framed artwork are double-boxed with foam corner protection and marked as fragile on the inventory. Bookcases, sideboards and any item with shelving are emptied, wrapped and loaded as a single unit where possible, with shelves boxed separately. White goods are disconnected, drained where required, and wrapped before loading. The vehicle is loaded so that load weight sits low and centred, which matters on a route that includes the gradient changes and tighter bends of the A30 west of Exeter and the lanes around Cornish villages. Nothing is loaded loose. Every box and every wrapped item carries a barcoded inventory label, and the inventory is signed off on collection in London and again on delivery in Cornwall.

Problem Prevention

Most of the things that go wrong on a Cornwall move are predictable and therefore preventable. Delays on the road are the most common, and they are usually caused by hitting the A30 at the wrong hour in season rather than by anything mechanical. Our planner sets the collection time in London so the road leg lands on the A30 outside peak holiday traffic windows where possible, and writes a realistic arrival window rather than a hopeful one. Access issues at the London end (a parking suspension that did not get approved, a lift that turns out to be too small, a stair turn the surveyor was not told about) are caught at the survey stage, which is why we send a senior surveyor in person rather than running a video survey for a long-distance booking. Access issues at the Cornwall end are caught the same way. Where we cannot visit, we work from photographs, satellite imagery and a phone walkthrough with the receiving party so the shuttle decision is made at survey, not on the day. Incorrect volume estimates are the third regular issue, because under-estimate the volume and the lorry leaves items behind, over-estimate it and you pay for space you did not need. We work to a measured volume figure rather than a room count, which removes the guess. Timing coordination at the Cornwall end matters because completion dates, key handovers and the booked time have to line up. Our office team holds all three in one schedule rather than passing them between departments. That is how we keep the same office team in conversation with you from the survey through to the final walk-through, and it is why the planning stage is the longest part of the job.

Bristol sits 12 miles north-west of Bath along the A4. The Clifton, Redland and Cotham addresses share many of Bath’s access characteristics — conservation area streets, residents’ parking schemes, Victorian and Georgian townhouses without lifts, and our Bristol route page covers the Clifton-specific shuttle and parking planning in detail.

Country house and village relocations across the Cotswolds follow a different access pattern — rural lanes, limited turning circles, properties reached by single-track roads, but the same fixed-plan approach. The Cotswolds route page covers the main destinations from Chipping Campden and Bourton-on-the-Water to Burford and the villages of the Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire borders.

Anyone who is moving home, this is company you should definitely use. Tony and his team were unbelievable. They packed up a house we’ve lived in for 26 odd years in a day! The following day they moved us and unpacked vans in record time. 260+ boxes and furniture. Re-assembled the beds, wardrobes and tables. They literally didn’t stop. Worked with good humour, kindness and extraordinary attention to detail. And all at an incredibly competitive price. Highly recommend. Thanks boys – made the move a breeze for us.

Our Process

Every long-distance job runs through the same five stages. The visual layout below uses a numbered block for each stage so you can see where the work sits before, during and after the road leg.

Survey. A senior surveyor visits the London property, measures the volume, photographs access points at both ends where possible, and records anything that affects the load (listed buildings, narrow staircases, lift restrictions, parking suspensions, fragile or high-value items). The survey output is a fixed volume figure, not an estimate, which is what the rest of the plan is built on.

Planning. The planner takes the survey output and books the crew, the vehicle, the route, and the Cornwall-side arrival slot in one pass. Where the destination needs a shuttle or an overnight pause at a holding depot, that is built into the plan at this stage. You receive a written plan with collection date, route, expected arrival window and Cornwall delivery date.

Packing. Our packing crews wrap and box everything to long-haul standard, which is a higher specification than a standard local move. Furniture is wrapped in export blankets and stretch film, glass is double-boxed, and inventories are barcoded so every item is tracked from London to the Cornwall address.

Transport. The vehicle leaves London on the agreed route, with a planned overnight stop where the run is too long for a single drive, and a switch to a shuttle vehicle at Bodmin or Truro where the destination cannot take a full-size lorry. Goods stay sealed in the vehicle between the London load and the Cornwall unload.

Delivery. On arrival at the Cornwall address, the crew delivers, unwraps and positions furniture. Where requested, we unpack, place items in cupboards and wardrobes, and remove all packing materials before we leave site.

FAQ

How long does a London to Cornwall move take from collection to delivery?

For most full-house moves into Cornwall, allow two working days from collection to delivery. Day one is the London load and the road leg, often with a planned overnight stop at a holding depot if the destination is in west Cornwall. Day two is the Cornwall delivery, including any shuttle from the holding point to the final address. Smaller moves to east Cornwall can run as a single long day. Larger moves or moves with overnight storage at either end run longer, and the plan you receive at survey stage will give you the exact dates.

Is packing included in a quote?

Full packing is included as standard on long-distance moves of this length, because long-haul protection is needed on the road and we do not recommend self-packing for a move this far. If you prefer to pack non-fragile items yourself, we can quote on a partial-pack basis, but fragile items, glass, artwork and electronics are always packed by our crews.

How is delivery in Cornwall scheduled?

Delivery is scheduled as a window on the agreed day rather than a fixed hour, because the road leg into Cornwall can vary by an hour or more depending on traffic on the A30. The crew calls ahead once the vehicle is within an hour of the destination so you know the precise arrival time, and the office contact who has been on the booking from the start is on hand throughout.

Are there extra charges for difficult access or unexpected delays?

The quote you receive after survey is a fixed price for the access conditions recorded at the survey, including any shuttle vehicle planned for the Cornwall end. The two situations that can trigger an additional charge are an access change you tell us about after the survey (a different property, a permit refusal, a lift out of service) and a force-majeure delay that requires the crew to overnight unexpectedly. Both are flagged to you before any extra cost is incurred.

Can full-size removals lorries get down narrow Cornish lanes?

In most of rural and coastal Cornwall, no. Lanes around Rock, Padstow, the Roseland, parts of the Lizard and the villages off the A39 are too narrow for an articulated lorry, and the turning circle at the destination property is often the limiting factor. Where the lane will not take a full-size vehicle, we plan a shuttle using a smaller lorry from a holding point closer to the address. The shuttle is built into the quote, not added on the day.

Do you cover Rock, Padstow and the wider Camel Estuary?

Yes. Rock, Padstow, Trebetherick, St Minver and the surrounding villages are routine destinations for our long-distance crew. The standard plan is a full-size lorry to a holding point on the wider road network, then a shuttle vehicle for the harbour-side and lane-end addresses. Seasonal traffic across the Camel Estuary is factored into the timing.

Are smaller shuttle vehicles available for properties with restricted access?

Yes. Our long-distance fleet includes smaller vehicles specifically for the final leg into properties that cannot take a full removals lorry. The shuttle is decided at the survey, not on the day, and is included in the fixed quote where the access plan calls for it.

Does seasonal tourist traffic affect timing for a Cornwall move?

Yes, and we plan for it. From late May to early September, and across school-holiday weeks, the A30 west of Exeter runs heavier than the rest of the year, and Saturdays in particular sit at peak load because of the weekly tourist changeover. The move plan you receive at survey stage avoids those windows where the destination flexibility allows, and writes the arrival window with enough margin that seasonal traffic does not push the unload into the night.
